News item - Electrical conservation program very successful
As one of the top 5
sites in the program AB Greenwell @ Yount Elementary was the lucky winners of
an autographed Ryan Kesler jersey.
Jann Drake, Principal
of AB Greenwell @ Yount Elementary, receives her prize from District Energy
Manager Brian Branting and Superintendant Dan Boudreault.
School District 79 has been running an Electrical
Conservation Behavioural program at 10 of its facilities this past year.
The sites involved in the program are:
|
|
Cowichan Secondary Quamichan Middle Alex Aitken Elementary Koksilah Elementary Palsson Elementary |
Lake Cowichan Secondary AB Greenwell @ Yount Elementary Alexander Elementary Maple Bay Elementary School Board Office Complex |
The electrical consumption for each facility was compared to
an average of the last 3 years. The 10 facilities that were involved in the
program have reduced their electrical consumption by 17.2% compared to 12.2%
for the facilities that were not involved in the program. Although the 12.2%
shows that, on the whole, the district is doing well in electrical conservation;
the difference of 5% shows that a more focused effort for conservation can
enhance the results.
