News item – Cow High first school in BC to act in Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Next year, two dozen CSS theatre students will fly to Edinburgh to perform “The 25th-Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” in Edinburgh, Scotland’s American High School Theatre Festival. This is the first time that a BC school has been invited and accepted to the Scottish city’s renowned international Fringe Festival.
“This is really a legacy honour, built on the work and quality of the many students that have come through the Performing Arts programs over the years,” said the school’s drama and film teacher Mike Moroz. Current students will be going to Edinburgh, but this is representative of CSS as a whole, he added.
Cow High shows have included Cabaret, Chicago and Red Hot & Cole, plus many more with choreographer Roz Roome, former musical director Devan Bailey and many others.
“Without them, the students, dedicated staff and supportive administration, it just wouldn’t have been possible,” said teacher and actor Moroz.
“We are very excited about the potential of showcasing our performing arts program internationally. It’s quite an honor to be invited,” said CSS principal Charlie Coleman.
“The cast will have a lot of work to do to raise the funds required for such a big trip,” added principal Coleman, noting that about $4000 per student is still needed towards travel costs for the historic trip. “We’ll be looking to the community for support.”
