Principal's Message
École Duncan Elementary is a single-track French Immersion School. We have an annex school, École Mill Bay Elementary, together; we deliver the only Elementary French Immersion Programme in the Cowichan Valley. Students begin in Kindergarten or Grade one on a path that gives them the opportunity to graduate with a Dogwood certificate specifying that they have completed the French Immersion Program. Upon graduation, students are effectively bilingual.
Duncan Elementary is housed in a complex of five buildings, including two gymnasiums and has a large schoolyard which includes three separate playground areas. The main building is a Duncan Municipality Heritage Building, constructed in 1913. The present enrolment is 400 students from K-6. On site we have support staff, a teaching staff of 20 as well as District student support services workers. Our parent group is very active and works well with each other and our staff, to accomplish the goals we mutually set for our school.
École Mill Bay Elementary is located in the Southern part of our School District. That building also has a heritage component. For more information on École Mill Bay, please refer to their website.
It is a school to be proud of and a great place to learn, work and visit.
