We are currently enrolling students for the 2010/2011 school year. Please phone our school office at 250-246-3522 for enrollment information or to arrange an interview to learn more about our program.
The Partners in Learning program is in its seventh year at Chemainus
Elementary Community School. This multi-age Kindergarten to Grade 7
class meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. On Mondays
and Fridays students learn at home. Fridays are also a time when
the teacher is available to consult with parents about students’
progress both in class and at home. The teacher can help to locate
resources and suggest ideas for home learning that will meet students’
interests while ensuring that Ministry of Education learning outcomes
are being met. The assessment and evaluation of student learning is
the responsibility of the teacher in accordance with requirements of
provincial legislation.
Partners in
Learning was initiated by parents, and developed within the terms of
School District 79’s mandate to provide choices within public
education. Parents and District personell worked together to create
a program that supports the role of the family in education, and seeks
to broaden the classroom walls to include the home and community.
Strong home support and communication with the program teacher ensures
that students can pursue individual interests and challenge themselves
within their own comfort levels. Parents' preference for the inclusion
of younger and older students in a multi-age classroom has resulted
in a supportive learning community amongst students, parents, and the
Partners In Learning teacher.
