An excellent site for Kindergarten to Grade 3. This site is user-friendly for children from 5 years old, and provides an educational and entertaining introduction to phonics. This is a great site for emergent and early readers, and provides a good teaching model for homeschool parents who want to feel confident that they are teaching their children to read in an effective way.

Dolch Word Games
The "Listen Match" and "Jigsaw" games are good activites for students in Grade 1.

Lesson Plans For Children's Books
Lots of lesson plans and activities to support the study of novels, poetry, myths, folktales.

Ask Jeeves--Kids
Contains on-line dictionaries, thesauruses (thesaurii?), atlases, and a search engine for finding answers to questions in all subject areas. 

On-going Tales (Poetry From the Past)
A collection of old children's poetry from out-of-print books.

Daily Grammar
A site with grammar exercises for Intermediate students.

Children's Literature--Resources for Parents
This site has good suggestions for helping your child to learn to read.

Phonics and Word Study
A good site for K to Grade 6 phonics and word study practice. This site is organized so that Primary students can start at the beginning and work through the program in an educationally sound manner. A good program for homeschoolers.

Word Games
Word games include fast-paced anagram and vocabulary games as well as word mastermind, cryptograms, hangman and a wordsearch.

Teen Reading Club NOT just for teens.
This on-line reading club is run by the B.C. Library Association with support from the Ministry of Education. It's a site for teens and mature upper Intermediate students who read and want to share what they're reading with others. Librarians moderate all the book reviews and keep a close eye on the forums to make sure everyone's safe and happy, but parents should also monitor their children's interactions on the site..

You can read about hockey here, or you can write hockey articles for this Wikia page. A tutorial can get you started if you want to write. A great opportunity for budding sports reporters.

This is a free Internet language site.
Click on "English-French" on the sidebar for a categorized list of words that a pleasant voice will translate into correctly pronounced French. Click on "Home" for other language activities.

A free program for learning French online. This is a Google sponsored site designed for kids. Please give it a try, and let me know if you find it useful for practicing simple French vocabulary and phrases at home.
