This NASA site has ten years of great space photographs. Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.

How the Body Works is a great sub-site of the multi-faceted Kidshealth.org website. How the Body Works offers short, lively, interesting and animated videos (similar to Brainpop.com) about the human body. Although it seems directed at Primary students, there is much here to interest Intermediate students as well. Parents might prefer to have the soundtrack turned off.
Systems of the Human Body
Learn how the human body functions, with systems cooperating to form a whole organism. Starting with following how eating an apple travels through the body, they will assimilate how the different parts involved work together. An animated human systems game and worksheet are included.

This is a link used by the web site above. Each topic has animations, 100’s of graphics, and thousands of descriptive links. Study the anatomy of the human body. It’s fun, interactive, and an ideal reference site for students or those who just want to know more about the medical descriptions used by doctors and nurses.
Your Gross and Cool Body
This site reviews body systems via gross and cool things that your body does (e.g., burps, gas, ear wax, etc.).
Climate Change For Kids
Have you heard about how the world's getting hotter? Some people say it is. Some say it isn't. Who's right? And does it matter? How will it affect you and your friends? How will it affect penguins? What can we do about it?
This is the best climate change site I have seen for Intermediate students.
BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO THE UN FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE - FOR KIDS
This site has animations that explain climate change and the ozone hole, and a link that condenses the science and history of events that have led to climate change. Intermediate level.
United Nations Climate Change Conference site:
For upper Intermediate and Secondary students. This site is following events at the Dec. 7 to 18 Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. It has numerous links to current information about climate change.
Carbon for Kids
This site includes a scale showing the scale of carbon dioxide emissions in the United States.
The Air Car web page
David Suzuki has cautioned adults not to shrug the burden of global warming onto our children's shoulders. The Air Car sites highlight one of the steps being taken to ensure that our children inherit a healthy planet.

Western Wildlife Federation -- Schools For a Living Planet
Provides free access to curriculum-linked, printable activities for grades 3 to 8. Curriculum connects English, Social Studies and Science, and meets British Columbia Learning Outcomes. (You must register to access materials. Homeschoolers can register using Chemainus Elementary as their school). Open this link for a description of the resources.
Energy Literacy Series
A Canadian site that examines renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. It provides information about energy, where facilities are located, and how energy resources are obtained, converted, and used. It examines energy issues from different perspectives. Intended for upper Intermediate or Secondary students.

This is the British Columbia section of this bird guide. Browse in a number of ways to find birds, hear their calls, and learn about their habits.
Dynamic Earth Interactive:
This site does a very good job of introducing students to plate tectonics, plate boundaries, and such perennial favourites as earthquakes and volcanoes. Especially good for Grade 7 Science.
All About Animals:
For Primary students, especially Grades 2 and 3. Click on Index or Habitat and learn about animals at an appropriate reading level for students in Grades 2 and 3.
Classifying Critters:
This site explains how scientists group animals into species, genus, families, etc.

Videos for kids to learn from. An excellent way to learn about animals. All video clips include an age rating.
