The following are sample bibliographic entries to use as a guide:

Books with 1 to 3 Authors:

Author’s last name, Author’s first name initial. (Year of Publication). Title of book. Location: Publisher.

For example:
Calfee, R.C., & Valencia, R. (1991). APA guide to preparing manuscripts for
journal publication. Washington, DC: American Psychological Association.

Books with more than 3 authors or no author:

Title of book. (Year of Publication). Location: Publisher.

For example:
Exploring science: The stars. (1990). Toronto: Prentice-Hall.

Article in a Magazine or Newspaper:

Author’s last name, Author’s first name initial. Title of article. Title of magazine.
Volume Number. (If given). Issue Number, pages.

For example:
Henry, W. (1990, April 9). Making the grade in today’s schools. Time. 135, 28-31.

Entry in an Encyclopedia that includes the Author’s Name:

Author’s last name, author’s first name intial. (Year of encyclopedia). Title of article.
Title of encyclopedia (Volume, page numbers). Location: Publisher.

For example:
Bergmann, P.G. (1993). Relativity. World book (Vol.26, pp. 501-508). Chicago: World Book.

Entry in an Encyclopedia – no author:

Article. (Year of Encyclopedia). In Title of encyclopedia. (Volume, page numbers). Location: Publisher.

For example:
Relativity. World book. (Vol. 26, pp. 501-508). Chicago: World Book.

Internet:

Author’s last name, then first name initial. (Copyright date or last updated). Title of the article. Date accessed. URL (http address)

For example:
DiscoveryKids. (2000). Eye gunk. Retrieved January 22, 2004 from Discovery
Channel Web site: http://yucky.kids.discovery.com

Pamphlet:

Title of pamphlet. (Year published) [pamphlet]. Place published: Name of group who
put out the pamphlet.


For example:
Caffine. (1992) [Pamphlet]. Toronto: Addiction Research Foundation.
