Drama

Emphasis in drama is on having fun and becoming more comfortable with being under the lights (literally). Classes involve a variety of games designed to get bodies moving and creativity flowing. Often being the centre of attention makes students feel uncomfortable and we work to build trust to allow students to create with body and voice. Multiple opportunities are available for students to perform such as extra-curricular productions and weekly karaoke sessions.

Grade 6

Drama 6: Students in Drama 6 will begin the process of characterization through voice. Students will perform in a variety of readers' theatre productions. Emphasis is placed on working with and supporting others.

Grade 7

Drama 7: Acting “skills” begin to be developed in Drama 7 as students create two- person character scenes. Students are encouraged to be serious in their pursuit of creating a different character, even if that character is super silly.

Grade 8

Drama 8: Students use their ability to quickly create a new character and perform improvised scenes in Drama 8. Many improv games are played in order to learn the five basic components of an improvised scene. Students also delve deeper into characterization as they perform a short monologue for their classmates.
