P.A.C. represents and
supports
the interests and endeavors of the children of Chemainus Elementary
School.
This support takes a variety of forms ranging from fund raising to
organizing
special events. We encourage parent involvement in the school.
PAC News June 2008
It is with a sigh of disbelief that I type my final
PAC news as a
representative of the Parent Association Committee for Chemainus
Elementary.
Over the past 2 years I have served as Secretary with signing authority
for your PAC. I have been witness to all the wonderful things PAC
supports that help to make our school a superior learning facility.
Once a month a group of volunteers get together and decide: how to
distribute, our gaming funds (according to guidelines of course), and
our fund raised monies, deal with problems involved in our school and
help decide on the future direction of our school.
This year alone we distributed $7500.00 in gaming
money and
approximately $10,000.00 in fund raising. All of the funds have gone to
support computer updates, sports equipment, library resources, bussing,
field trips, band, choir, and the list goes on.
My disbelief comes from the fact that our school has an enrolment of
over 350 students and we, as parents, can not find one hour 9 times a
year to attend a meeting…yes our quorum (2 executive members and 3
parents) was not met again. Do the math 5 parents from 350
students…hard to equate. We need your help to continue to be a school
supported PAC, remember your children will be the ones that are
affected by the lack of funding.
Without a PAC our school will not be eligible for
gaming funds.
At our last meeting we discussed busing and
retirement gifts. We also
wanted to grant Ms. Sandi’s request for bussing funds for 2
kindergarten field trips, and increase our bursary support for the
graduates at the Secondary School.
It has been a pleasure and my honor to work beside Lisa Derby
(Treasurer) Marlene Hayes (Past Treasurer) Craig Miller (Chair) and all
the other parents who have cared enough to attend the meetings,
everyone’s ideas and thoughts were welcomed and appreciated. Let me
leave you with this quote.” We are all busy…but in the end we all wake
up with the same 24 hours everyday.”
Thanks Chemainus Elementary, Austin and I will miss you.
