Deserts are very hot places on the planet, and not very many species of animals live there because there isn't very much water. Probably, only about a thousand species live in the desert. Camels live in the desert. They can walk hundreds of miles without water. But horses can only go a little ways, so you wouldn't like to take a horse across the desert.
