Chemainus Secondary School
Chemainus Secondary School (CHSS), wishes to welcome all new and returning students to the 2010-2011 school year. Chemainus Secondary is a Grade 8-12 school of approximately 400 students that provides a full educational program within a flexible, caring and safe environment.
The unique features of the school include a full compliment of courses in Fine Arts and Applied Skills, an academic self-paced program for students with academic challenges at the grade 8/9 level, a very active gifted program (Mind Games, Math Challenge, Chess Club), a successful Band Program, an environmental student volunteer program (SHOE), a 1/2 time self-paced program for students with academic challenges (Open School), a Student Advisory Program, a successful Distributed Learning Program, an active extra-curricular and intra-mural athletic program and much more.
Chemainus is a picturesque town located on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The town is internationally recognized for it's more than 30 huge murals painted on buildings throughout the community depicting the history of the local area.. Students come from Chemainus and the neighboring communities of Crofton and Saltair.

On Thursday, June 24th, students, Aboriginal Elders, community members, and CHSS school staff and School District members and trustees gathered to celebrate the release of the Elder Project book. Consisting of poems written by students from stories told to them by their elders, the book is a very powerful resource. The Elder Project.pdf
