Chemainus Secondary School (CHSS), wishes to welcome all new and returning students to the 2011-2012 school year. Chemainus Secondary is a Grade 8-12 school of approximately 400 students that provides a full educational program within a flexible, caring and safe environment.
The unique features of the school include a full compliment of courses in Fine Arts and Applied Skills, an academic self-paced program for students with academic challenges at the grade 8-10 level, a very active gifted program (Mind Games, Math Challenge, Chess Club), a successful Band Program, an environmental student volunteer program (SHOE) and Energy Ambassadors, a 1/2 time self-paced program for students with academic challenges (Open School), a successful Distributed Learning Program, an active extra-curricular and intra-mural athletic program and much more.
Chemainus is a picturesque town located on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The town is internationally recognized for it's more than 30 huge murals painted on buildings throughout the community depicting the history of the local area.. Students come from Chemainus and the neighboring communities of Crofton and Saltair.

On June 29th, students and parents gathered as the annual year-end awards ceremony took place honoring students for achieving excellence in a wide variety of academic, fine arts and practical arts courses. The major awards were also presented to the above deserving students (left to right) - Kelsey Saunders, Morgan Kinahan, Myles Lajeunesse, Alison Janssen, Stephanie Eisler, and Amanda Folster.

Recently, all of the Grade 8 students participated in a morning activity as a component of their Aboriginal Culture and Language Program. The activities included Aboriginal Elders and District Support Staff along with teachers from CHSS and their students.
