Shared Beliefs and Values
Staff and parents have identified the following attitudes, behaviours
and commitments we believe are necessary to make our school vision
a reality.
- Students achieve their full potential in
a structured, teacher-directed environment where skills and concepts,
in distinct disciplines, are presented in a sequential manner,
consistently applied throughout the school.
- With teacher and parent support and help,
students can master challenging curricula and we expect them
to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively to achieve
this shared educational purpose.
- Students maximize their individual achievement
when high standards and expectations are reinforced both at school
and at home.
- All students develop high self-esteem through
a strong sense of identity and pride in their accomplishments.
- It is important to recognize the accomplishments
of individual students and of the school. Accomplishments are
a source of pride for all members of the school community.
- Decisions about learning are a shared responsibility
among teacher, parent and student.
- Quality learning occurs through positive
interpersonal relationships that include students, teachers,
parents and the community working together and responding to
change.
- A school dress code and uniform policy encourages
a non-distracting learning environment and promotes school spirit.
School Plan for Student Achievement
In the spring of 2003 our School Planning Council reviewed school
data including the provincial student assessment results and
the results of several school surveys. Using this information,
the Council has identified three goals for the 2003-2004 school
year. They are:
- To improve students' success in numeracy.
|
- To improve students' knowledge, skills and
attitudes related to information and computer technology
and their ability to access, evaluate and use information.
- To improve students' knowledge about the
environment, especially our rural industries and local ecologies.
- Nature Program
Our school is uniquely situated on over 10 acres of wooded land
which is bordered by farms, forests and rivers. Our school name
and mission statement reflect our desire to utilize our rural
surroundings to enhance student learning.
All of our students study rural industries and local ecologies
as part of their science program so that by the end of Grade
6 they will be knowledgeable about their environment and its
relevance to modern life. A committee consisting of staff, parents
and community members are working together to identify existing
programs and initiatives that will promote this aspect of our
curriculum.
Dress Code/Uniform
It is expected that student clothing be neat and clean.
Clothing should be non-distracting ie. No logos, hats indoors,
tank tops, et cetera. Suitable footwear should be worn relative
to weather conditions. Safety is a primary concern, so flat or
very low heels are requested. All students are expected to have
indoor shoes so outdoor footwear can be removed when in school.
Students require a pair of runners for physical education activities.
In most cases, these can double as the indoor shoes.
A majority of parents have indicated their support for a school
uniform and the school is encouraging all families to join in.
At this time for parents' convenience, our PAC has made arrangements
for a variety of tops in three colours to be purchased at a discount.
The tops will have the school name embroidered on them. Should
parents wish to also purchase bottoms, they too will be available.
