Principal's Message

Welcome to beautiful Lake Cowichan Secondary School. A rare and unique gem in School District 79, LCSS is home to both a middle and secondary program, in the same building. With the addition of middle school students in grades 6-8 this year, our student population is just over 500. Included in this diverse and exciting age group are over 20 international students from around the world. It’s a place where people get to know each other.

During the year, I urge students and parents to get involved in the many activities, academic, social and athletic, happening at the school. The more involved you become, the more rewarding and fun you will find your time at our school. We have expectations of you, our students, and of ourselves. Everyone at LCSS is committed to doing his or her personal best to ensure that we have provided the best possible learning opportunities we can.

I look forward to working together as a community of learners with students, teachers and parents to make LCSS a challenging and rewarding experience.

About Lake Cowichan Secondary

Lake Cowichan Secondary School is located on the shores of beautiful Cowichan Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes on Vancouver Island. Truly a unique school within School District 79, LCSS is home to a “school within a school” grade 6-8 middle program and a grade 9-12 secondary program. The middle school program offers flexible teaching blocks, teacher teaming and exploratory rotations offered to each student in the program. The secondary program features a full graduation program leading to a Dogwood Certificate upon completion of the BC Ministry of Education curriculum. In addition to being the first school in the District to offer a grade 6-8 middle school program, LCSS has the distinction of being the first school to house international students. Currently, there are over 20 students from around the world learning English as they work towards their BC Graduation Certificate. LCSS is truly an innovative and exciting place to be!
