Message
Palsson
Elementary School provides a positive and stimulating environment
for learning. We are a cooperative, healthy and safe school
where you will see students and teachers learning from each
other. A spirit of belonging, sharing, and acceptance is alive
in our mutual commitment to success.
At Palsson, we believe that each member of our school community
is a learner and can take personal responsibility for creating
a positive learning environment. We are fortunate to have
students who are enthusiastic, courteous, and well-behaved.
This mutual respect for each other enables us to have a safe,
happy, and caring atmosphere. The Palsson P.A.C. is a very
supportive parent organization. The school has greatly benefitted
from their generosity and enthusiasm in providing activities,
equipment, and financial assistance for services that directly
benefit the children in this community. Our Staff at Palsson
Elementary School is dedicated to creating an environment
for children which will stimulate continuous intellectual
growth as well as promote physical, aesthetic, social, and
emotional development.
Our school is a friendly, caring, and challenging place to
be.

About
Palsson Elementary School
Palsson
Elementary is located in the town of Lake Cowichan, which is
the western component of School District # 79 (Cowichan Valley).
We are a rural school comprised of around 180 students enrolled in
Kindergarten to Grade 5. Our catchment area encompasses the
north side of the Cowichan River, stretches east to Paldi, and
west to the North Arm of Cowichan Lake. We are situated next
door to "Friendship Park", a beautiful natural classroom,
in which an attitude of respect and caring for the environment
can be fostered in our students. A tremendous amount of school
pride and "ownership" is connected with the park because
its early development was a community / school based project.
Palsson is a Green School with an active recycling program established
in every classroom.
Lake Cowichan and vicinity, with a population of 5500, has traditionally
had the forest industry as their economic base. Many Palsson
parents hold forest related jobs.
Lake Cowichan has established a sister city in Japan, Ohtaki,
and there is a well established International Exchange Program
in the local high school. Many service clubs and churches are
active in the community, and a variety of activities ( eg. hockey,
drama, Cubs and Brownies, skateboard park, water skiing, softball,
etc.) are available.
