When you are applying for a job, follow these suggestions:
- Gather your personal information. You will likely need official identification and your social insurance number.
- Put together a resumé.
- Determine the kind of job you want or are willing to accept.
- Search in the paper for jobs. Also, ask friends and family, and approach businesses where you would like to work.
- Dress for the job you want. Be neat and tidy.
- Determine whether or not you need a cover letter. If so, write one.
- Visit businesses and ask to give your resumé to a manager.
- Follow-up by phone or in person. Don’t annoy anyone, but be prepared to be persistent.
